Abstract

Anemia in adolescent girls is a common nutritional problem in Indonesia. To address this, the government provides iron supplement tablets (IBT). However, irregular consumption may impact metabolic functions, including blood glucose levels. This study aims to describe the random blood glucose (RBG) levels of junior high school girls who consume IBT. A descriptive observational method was used involving 42 female students selected through simple random sampling. Data collection included questionnaires on IBT consumption and RBG measurements using the Easy Touch POCT device. The data were analyzed using univariate analysis to describe RBG levels.

The average RBG level among students taking IBT was 114 mg/dL. Students who consumed four tablets per month had an average RBG level of 113 mg/dL, those who consumed two tablets had 117 mg/dL, and those who consumed one tablet had 110 mg/dL. Interpretation of the results shows that all RBG levels were within the normal range of 70–140 mg/dL. Although there were differences in average levels based on the amount of IBT consumed, no signs of hyperglycemia were observed. This indicates that IBT consumption does not lead to increased random blood glucose levels in junior high school students
