Overview of Immunoglobulin M (IgM) and Immunoglobulin G (IgG) Examination Results in Children with Dengue Fever at Inche Abdoel Moeis Regional Hospital in 2023

Abstract

Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) is a viral disease transmitted by mosquitoes, which can cause symptoms such as high fever, muscle pain, and joint pain. Although most cases are asymptomatic, DHF can be fatal. This study aimed to describe the results of Immunoglobulin M (IgM) and Immunoglobulin G (IgG) examinations in pediatric DHF patients at Inche Abdoel Moeis Regional Hospital during 2023. The research used a descriptive method with univariate analysis and a purposive sampling technique. The results showed that secondary infections were more dominant (54%), followed by past infections (36%) and primary infections (10%). These findings indicate that most pediatric patients had a history of previous DHF infection. The largest age group affected was school-aged children from 7-12 years old (46%), while the highest incidence was recorded during the period from January to June (57%). The conclusion of this study is that most pediatric patients experience secondary infections and that the 7-12 age group is the most vulnerable. The number of DHF cases was highest in the first half of 2023.
