The Relantionship Between Duration Of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus And Whecocyte And Platelite Counts At The Sidomulyo Public Health Center In Samarinda City

Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a chronic condition characterized by high blood glucose, with a continuously rising global prevalence. DM can lead to severe complications, which are influenced by disease severity and duration. This study focused on inflammatory factors, as high glucose can damage blood vessel endothelium and affect white blood cell activity and platelet production.The objective was to determine the relationship between the duration of type 2 DM and the number of leukocytes and platelets. This observational analytic study used a cross-sectional design, involving 40 type 2 DM patients from the Sidomulyo Community Health Center. Data were analyzed using the Chi-Square test.
The results showed no significant relationship between the duration of type 2 DM and the counts of leukocytes (p \leq 0.08) or platelets (p \leq 0.07), for patients with a disease duration of either \leq 5 years or > 5 years. This indicates that in the studied population, the duration of type 2 DM does not significantly affect leukocyte and platelet counts.
