Analysis of Sodium Cyclamate Levels in Bulk Powdered Milk Sold at Cake Shops in Sungai Pinang Dalam District

Abstract

In a descriptive study, researchers examined 20 samples of unbranded powdered milk from baking supply stores in the Sungai Pinang Dalam District of Samarinda. The purpose was to check for the presence and concentration of sodium cyclamate, an artificial sweetener, and to see if the levels were within the 250 mg/kg limit set by BPOM RI No. 11 of 2019.

Using precipitation tests and the gravimetric method, the analysis revealed that four out of the 20 samples tested positive for sodium cyclamate. The concentrations found were: sample 11 (0.332 mg/kg), sample 14 (0.278 mg/kg), sample 17 (3.77 mg/kg), and sample 18 (0.315 mg/kg).

The study concluded that while some of the bulk powdered milk samples did contain sodium cyclamate, the detected levels were all well below the maximum permissible limit, making them safe for consumption according to Indonesian regulations.
