Indonesia is one of the countries with the highest number of active smokers in the world in 2023. A study was conducted in Samarinda City, which has a percentage of active smokers of 17.94%, and focused on the Rawa Makmur village area which is recorded to have 484 smokers. The purpose of this study is to measure hemoglobin and hematocrit levels in tobacco smokers and e-cigarettes. The carbon monoxide (CO) content in cigarette smoke is known to affect the levels of these two blood parameters, and even potentially cause polythemia. Using descriptive methods and purposive sampling techniques, this study involved 21 respondents who smoked tobacco and 20 respondents who smoked e-cigarettes. The results showed that the majority of respondents from both groups had hemoglobin and hematocrit levels that were within normal limits. Among tobacco smokers, 76.19% had normal hemoglobin and 66.66% had normal hematocrit. Meanwhile, in e-cigarette smokers, the percentage of normal levels is higher, namely 90% for hemoglobin and 85% for hematocrit. This study concluded that hemoglobin and hematocrit levels in active smokers were generally within normal limits.
